Are You Eligible?
To join the Motability Car Scheme, you must receive either:
The Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Or The War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
To qualify for the scheme you don't need to drive, you can nominate up to two friends or relatives who will drive the vehicle on your behalf. Parents or carers can also apply on behalf of child aged three years and older.
You must have at least 12 months' award length remaining and proposed drivers must not have had any serious driving convictions, disqualifications or endorsements within the last five years. There are also some restrictions on drivers under 25 and those with provisional licences.
In addition to the contract hire scheme, where you change your car every 3 years, it is also possible to buy a car with a Hire Purchase agreement. Should you wish to do this it is normally expected that you will be receiving the allowance for the full length of the agreement.
