Motability Explained
Motability is an independent not-for-profit organisation begun in 1978 to give disabled people access to safe, reliable and affordable cars. If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, then you can turn part or all of your allowance into the car of your choice. Some cars come with a Nil advance payment whilst others require a contribution from yourself. It really is a wonderfully cheap and practical way to have a new car.John Grose is a Premier Partner of Motability. Each franchised location has dedicated and fully accredited Motability specialists who work closely with our disabled customers to ensure they get the right vehicle for their needs. With John Grose you can be assured that we will support you through the full life-cycle of your ownership.
Motability Contract Hire
The simplest way to have a new car is on a three-year hire lease with Motability. Ninety eight percentage of John Grose Motability customers chose this method. For a regular monthly payment, you get a new car every three years. The monthly payment also covers:
- Comprehensive insurance
- Road Tax
- Free replacement tyres
- Replacement of windscreens or windows
- RAC breakdown cover
- Maintenance, servicing and repairs
- Up to 20,000 miles per year
- Up to £500 of adaptions to your vehicle free of charge
- Plus, if the car comes back in good condition after three years without any insurance claims you'll be eligible for £200 from Motability.
Motability Hire Purchase
Alternatively, you can purchase a car through MHP. This contract allows you to own the car after contract periods of two to five years. However, it is your responsibility to arrange and pay for most of the things covered by the contract hire payment above. That is, you are responsible for insurance, breakdown assistance (if you want it), repairs and maintenance, MOT, tyres etc.
