Ford Proud to be a Top Ethical Company

Ford is proud to feature in the 2010 World's Most Ethical Companies by the renowned Ethisphere Institute.

The honour is even greater knowing that among the thousands of companies judged from around the world, Ford is the only company that makes cars. As well as further demonstrating our commitment to operating ethically and to reducing our impact on the environment, the award recognises the importance we place on Corporate Social Responsibility.

Why we've been recognised

The Ethisphere Institute cited Ford’s ‘innovation, transparency, communication and citizenship’ as key factors in ‘outpacing competitors.’

And to quote the Institute’s Executive Director, Alex Brigham: “As we all know…our country and world has been suffering from a global economic shock. However…we see that Ford is not shirking its ethical commitments and emphasis on being a responsible corporate citizen. Instead, Ford remains morally strong and thoroughly communicates that to employees and the public.”

Good corporate citizenship extends across our entire business so covers a wide range of areas and includes many specific initiatives.

For example, in terms of vehicle innovations we've developed new Eco technologies, such as advanced EcoBoost petrol engines that reduce fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. While our ECOnetic range of cars are as fuel-efficient as possible, without compromising the driving experience.

We’re also committed to the environment, which is why we source renewable energy wherever possible, have developed a programme for greener vehicle distribution and established best practice in both product sustainability and vehicle recycling.

Of course, people are our greatest asset so human rights are integral to our overall strategy. And a formal Code of Basic Working Conditions is the foundation of our operations around the world.

As a business, it’s always reassuring to have your efforts recognised and validated by a independent source such as The Ethisphere Institute, particularly when they state: ‘Ford scored extremely well on virtually all of our measurement’, before concluding, ‘Ford gets it.’

Taking a lead on the environment
Whether it's generating renewable energy at our manufacturing plants or our innovative approach to vehicle recycling, we're constantly looking to reduce our impact on the environment. You can find out more about our working practices and the many programmes and projects we’re involved with that help make a difference. For example, our latest global Sustainability Report and our grant-giving initiative Ford Britain Trust in the UK.
