Introducing the Kia Hybrid & Electric Range

With the increasing number of Clean-Air zones in UK cities, the government plan to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and the current government plug-in grants of up to £3,000 of the cost of the vehicle plus up to £350 towards the installation of your charger available until 2022/23, there are many benefits for going electric now.  For more information on the government OLEV grant click here.

Benefits of Owning a Plug-In Hybrid & 100% Electric Vehicle

Due to electric motors having fewer components, electric vehicle owners can expect to save an average of £3,250 on repair and maintenance costs over the life of the vehicle compared to a petrol powered car.

Plus, with the cost to charge an electric battery much lower than the price filling up with petrol or diesel you could see a typical saving of £780 per year, based on 12,500 miles, 46.3mpg fuel economy, £1.18/litre fuel cost, £0.20/kWh domestic electricity cost and an energy consumption of 16.5kWh/100km when charging the vehicle at home.

Driver's of electric vehicles also benefit from:

  • Zero Road Tax
  • Zero CO2 Emissions
  • Zero Fuel Fumes
  • Zero Gear Changes
  • Zero Engine Vibrations

Living with an Electric Vehicle

Many people worry they won't be able to travel long distances between charges but in reality most 100% electric vehicles can drive over 200 miles on a full charge which is enough to drive from London to Leicester and back again.*  A plug-in hybrid vehicle also has the capability of driving over 30 miles* on 100% electric power, which is enough range to get the average person to and from work each day.

In the UK there are more than 20,000 public chargepoints which is one of the biggest networks in Europe, with new locations being added every day.

Although most owners will charge their electric vehicle over night at home, if you need to re-charge on longer journeys its reasuring to know that you can acheive 80% battery charge in just 30minutes using a public rapid charger, which is just enough time to enjoy a coffee break.  It's also good to know that most batteries now come with an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Owners of electric vehicles can take advantage of remote functions, which they can control with a mobile phone, including checking the current level of battery charge, available mile range and the ability to set time when it is cheapest to charge their battery over night.  There are helpful apps available to download which will calculate the cost of using a public charger, help locate your nearest charge point while you're on the road, allow you to plan your journey before you leave home and find out which energy suppliers have domestic tariffs tailored to electric vehicle drivers.  A good example of this is Zap-Map, which is available on both Android and iOS, click here to visit their website.

Going Electric Makes Good Sense for your Business Too

With the current rate of BIK set at just 1% for 2021/2022 which will then rise to 2% until 2025 alongside the reduced vehicle running costs, ability to report significantly lower company fleet CO2 emissons and less National Insurance Contributions to pay, the benefits for any business are now certainly worth considering.

Don't delay, contact us today for more details

*The electric range you achieve in real life conditions will depend upon a number of factors including the starting charge of the battery, accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, driving styles and vehicle load.
