The Scrappage Scheme Explained
If you have a car which was registered on or before 28th February 2000, or a van that is 8years or older, you may qualify for the Government Scrappage Scheme whereby you can claim a minimum of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new car or van. The scheme was launched in the middle of May, and was recently extended by a further £100million, meaning that a total of £400million will have been invested in the scheme at its end. The scheme will run until the funding runs out or on the 31st March 2010 – whichever comes first.
Exchanging a qualifying vehicle for a brand new one will also help reduce vehicle emissions and improve fuel efficiency, which is great for the environment but also for your pocket. With a new vehicle you have the potential to both significantly increase your Miles Per Gallon and reduce your annual road tax costs: with the emissions based car tax many new vehicles are eligible for the £35 per year bracket, and some qualify for the nil rate!
Scrappage Scheme Eligibility Checklist
Your vehicle qualifies for the scrappage scheme if it:
• Was first registered in the UK on or before: CARS - 28th February 2000 (V registration or older) VANS - 30th August 2001
• Weighs up to 3,500 kg
• Is registered in the UK
• Has a valid MOT certificate at the time you order your new car or van
• Has been registered in your name at a UK address for 12 consecutive months with the DVLA when you place your order
If your vehicle is eligible, you will receive the scrappage discount against any of our brand new vehicles. Your current vehicle may be a car or van and you may use your scrappage allowance against a new car or van, it doesn’t have to be a car for a car or a van for a van. Plus, Ford are offering further scrappage savings on selected models for a limited time only.
