New Vehicle Payment - What is it?
It's called the New Vehicle Payment for cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) and it’s for people getting a new vehicle. It’s currently £250, but from 1 March 2023 it’s increasing to £750. If you’ve already had your £250 payment, you’ll get an extra £500 – this will take your total New Vehicle Payment to £750. Motability will send all of these payments by 31 March 2023.
It’s called a New Product Payment for scooters and powered wheelchairs, and it’s £100 instead.
Am I eligible for the New Vehicle Payment?
You’ll receive this payment when you get your new vehicle, if you order your first vehicle before the end of 2023. If you were already on the Scheme before 1 January 2022, you’ll be eligible whenever you get your next vehicle.

If you’ve already had your £250 or you get a new vehicle before the payment increases:
They'll start paying the £500 from the beginning of March 2023. You’ll get this by bank transfer if you’ve saved your bank details in your Motability Scheme online account if not, you’ll get a cheque. We’ll send all payments by 31 March 2023.
If you get your new vehicle after the end of February 2023:
Will I still get the payment if I extend my lease?
Yes – you’ll get the payment shortly after you get your next car or WAV.

Motability will usually pay this within a few weeks of you getting your new vehicle. If we do not have your bank details, we’ll send you a cheque instead, but this will take up to a month.
