You have the option of charging your vehicle at your home or business using a three-pin plug or wall charging unit or you can choose one of the thousands of public charging points available across the UK. A good app to use to locate your nearest charging point, is Zapmap. This will allow you to search by location and find the nearest chargers to you, including rapid or high power charging stations.

What is the difference between all of the different charging points?

When it comes to a public charging point, there are typically three different types of connection; CCS, CHADEMO & Type 2. The latter is usually limited to a 22kW speed and you'll need to use your own. Each charging station you come across will be managed by different companies. Usually they'll have their own smartphone apps where you can register for an account, ensuring a smooth process when charging publicly. The Zapmap app will display the company that owns the charging point.

How long can I wait to charge my vehicle after the warning light comes on?

Like their petrol and diesel counterparts, plug-in hybrid vehicles have a warning light when you're running low on electric. The benefit of a plug-in hybrid vehicle is that when the electric has run low, it'll switch to petrol.

Is it true you can't travel long distances in a plug-in hybrid?

Absolutely not. The benefit of a plug-in hybrid is that when doing a long journey, you have the best of both worlds as the car will automatically switch the fuel when needed.

Can I tow with my plug-in hybrid vehicle?

Is it cheaper to own a plug-in hybrid vehicle than a petrol only?

Whilst the initial investment of owning a plug-in hybrid is higher, overall you'll pay less. when compared to petrol or diesel engines, plug-in hybrid vehicles have less moving parts which in turn means there is less that could go wrong.
