Kia PV5 Passenger named Autocar’s ‘Best Large Car’ for 2026

The all-electric Kia PV5 Passenger has been crowned ‘Best Large Car’ for 2026 at the highly regarded Autocar Awards, marking a major milestone for Kia’s innovative PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) range.

Recognising its bold approach to modern mobility, Autocar’s expert judging panel hailed the PV5 Passenger as a shining example of how electric commercial vehicles can be completely reimagined. They praised its forward-thinking design, intelligent packaging, and outstanding value, alongside its distinctive styling, refined driving experience, and impressively efficient use of interior space.

The judges also highlighted the PV5’s strong performance and driving range, made possible by Kia’s advanced E-GMP.S (Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service) architecture. Combined with a highly competitive price point, the PV5 Passenger is setting new standards across both the electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) and MPV sectors.

With additional versatility on the horizon—including 7-seat and wheelchair-accessible (WAV) variants—the Autocar team concluded that the PV5 stands out as one of the most innovative, practical, and accessible all-electric vehicles currently available.

Mark Tisshaw, Editor of Autocar, commented: “Besides looking so wonderfully progressive, fresh and unusual, the Kia PV5 is very cleverly packaged, appealing to travel in, really well-mannered to drive – and it’s outstanding value for money. With clever seven-seat and wheelchair-accessible conversion versions due soon, the PV5 looks set to be one of the smartest ways you could spend a modest budget on a big, quirky family car for some considerable time to come – and we like it a lot.”

The PV5 Passenger: Redefining Electric MPVs

Marking a new chapter for Kia, the fully electric PV5 Passenger MPV first went on sale in the UK in 2025. Initially available in a five-seat configuration, customers could choose between two battery options:

  • Standard Range (51.5kWh) – offering up to 183 miles
  • Long Range (71.2kWh) – offering up to 256 miles

Building on this, Kia announced the addition of a seven-seat PV5 Passenger on 3 June, with order books opening from 8 June. This new configuration introduces a flexible 2-2-3 seating layout, comfortably accommodating up to seven adults.

Practicality remains a key strength, with 318 litres of luggage space behind the third row, expanding to 785 litres when those seats are folded.

Enhanced Specification and Features

The range has also been strengthened with the introduction of a new top-tier ‘Elite’ grade, sitting above ‘Essential’ and ‘Plus’.

Across the lineup, standard equipment is generous and includes:

  • 12.9-inch touchscreen with navigation
  • Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®
  • 7.5-inch driver display
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Rear-view camera

The Elite grade adds a number of premium touches, such as:

  • Electric sliding rear doors with power latching
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Surround-view camera and blind-spot monitoring
  • Side parking distance warning
  • Two-tone interior upholstery

Recent MY27 updates further enhance usability, including a revised antenna design lowering the overall height to below 1.9 metres, a height-adjustable driver’s armrest, and a convenient Walk Away Lock system.

Among its growing list of accolades:

  • 2026 International Van of the Year (overall winner)
  • ‘Van of the Year’ – Electrifying.com, What Van?, Parkers, and The Sun
  • TopGear.com Awards 2026 – ‘Family Car of the Year’ (PV5 Passenger)

Driving the Future of Mobility

With its latest Autocar triumph, the Kia PV5 Passenger solidifies its position as a game-changing electric vehicle, delivering versatility, innovation, and value in equal measure.

As Kia continues to expand its PBV offering, the PV5 Passenger stands as clear proof that the future of mobility is not only electric—but smarter, more flexible, and more accessible than ever before.
