Government Launches £650 Million Electric Car Grant Scheme

Available from Wednesday 16th July 2025, the UK Government has unveiled a major £650 million Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme aimed at making new electric vehicles more affordable for British consumers and businesses. The scheme provides up to £3,750 off a new zero-emission car priced at £37,000 or less.

How It Works

Two-tier discount structure:
£3,750 off for the "greenest" new EVs that meet stringent manufacturing sustainability standards
£1,500 off for qualifying models with slightly lower carbon-score credentials

Eligibility
• Vehicles must cost £37,000 or less
• Only new electric vehicles are eligible, used cars are not
• Cars must have a verified Science-Based Target (SBT) and demonstrate embodied carbon in vehicle and battery production

The scheme will be funded until the 2028/29 financial year, with the aim of reducing the upfront cost gap between petrol and electric vehicles.

Good news!
If you already own an electric vehicle and would like to upgrade, subject to eligibility criteria you will be able to claim the grant! The grant is based on the purchase of a new EV and not what you currently drive.

The best part?
You don't have to do a thing! We'll handle all of the paperwork for you so there's no need for you to apply separately or contact the government yourselves!
