New Mondeo Hybrid Estate revealed for 2019
A Ford Mondeo Hybrid Estate 2019 has been revealed.
The new model variant was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show and will offer a more practical version of the car.
It will be powered by a hybrid-electric powertrain which will enable the low-emissions of a hybrid and an abundance of driving range potential.
The vehicle will balance both the environmental benefits of a hybrid with the freedom of a combustion engine.
While the carmaker announced the new car it withheld the full specification and price for it.
Adding an estate car to the current Mondeo Hybrid range will offer customers significantly better practicality.
“For many customers the practicality offered by a estate body style is an absolute must, so we’re excited to announce that from next year those drivers will also be able to reduce their fuel bills using the sophisticated petrol-electric powertrain of our new Mondeo hybrid estate,” said Roelant de Waard, Ford European Marketing, Sales and Service vice president.
“Electrified powertrains will continue to play a key role in our European product line-up.
“Ford is investing $11 billion and plans to deliver 16 fully electric vehicles within a global portfolio of 40 electrified vehicles by 2022.”
The powertrain combines an 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine, which develops 187PS supported by an electric motor.
The 1.4 kWh lithium-ion, air-cooled, recyclable battery located behind the rear seats will offer regenerative braking which should charge up the battery on the move.
Regenerative braking technology captures up to 90 per cent of the energy normally lost during braking to replenish the battery.
There are a number of different driving does available on the Hybrid car including a pure electric mode as well as a hybrid and combustion engine only modes.
Ford has also developed a number of technologies to optimise and monitor fuel efficiency and consumption.
The Mondeo hybrid is assembled alongside the petrol- and diesel-engine Mondeo range at Ford’s state-of-the-art facility in Valencia, Spain, and will be UK dealerships in spring 2019.
