Tour de Ford 2017
Cyclists in East Anglia were again treated to a taste of the pro cycling experience on our second Tour de Ford ride, in association with Team Sky, hosted by our FordStore Ipswich team on Sunday 14th May.
The day began with registration and refreshments in the showroom on Ransomes Europark, followed by an introduction, safety briefing and a video illustrating how Ford provide support to the Team Sky racing team. The group of around 70 cyclists, including experienced lead and support riders from within the John Grose team, was then split into groups, with each having a Team Sky-liveried Ford Mondeo (the same vehicle used to support 2016 Tour de France-winning team) or Ford Transit support vehicle.
This year there was a 30 mile as well as the 50 mile route around the East Anglian countryside. Both passed through many Suffolk towns and villages including Holbrook, Brantham, East Bergholt and Hintlesham, with the 50 mile groups also taking in Hadleigh and Monks Eleigh. Following a wet start the sun came out by the time the riders passed underneath the Orwell Bridge and treated everyone to some beautiful views across the area.
The free event finished on return to the dealership, where a Sky branded goody bag was received by each rider, and the lucky winner of a limited edition cycling jersey was drawn.
The Tour de Ford celebrates Ford’s partnership with Team Sky. The partnership agreement affords Team Sky access to a range of Ford vehicles to provide specific support for all key areas of the Team Sky racing and non-racing programme.
Liveried in the distinctive blue and black Team Sky colours, the most visible cars in the peloton are the Ford Mondeo estates used by the team’s sports directors and team mechanics. These are joined by a range of other Ford vehicles with in-car technologies suited for any race and any environment.
We were thrilled to be able to host this prestigious event and again showcase the Ford and Team Sky partnership in Suffolk. We’re so pleased with the feedback we’ve received and hope the riders enjoyed the day as much as we did.
