Upgrade to a 100% Electric New e-C4
Upgrade to a New 100% Electric e-C4 and you could enjoy an average saving of £1,300 per year on fuel costs alone* compared to a similar spec, prior-model C4 Cactus with a petrol engine!
The costs of running an electric vehicle are significantly lower than a petrol or diesel plus future servicing and maintenance costs will be less due to electric vehicles having much fewer moving parts that will wear out and need replacing.
If you decided to upgrade to an electric e-C4 you could make a noticable saving on your weekly fuel bill, for example; if you currently drive 12,000 miles per year in a prior-model Citroen C4 Cactus Flair 1.2L 110HP Petrol Auto and upgraded to a New 100% Electric e-C4 Shine 100kW 136 Electric Auto then you could save £24.92 per week in fuel costs*. Please see the comparison table below:

Given that private cars are usually parked overnight, most electric car owners rely on home charging to ensure that their EV is ready for use each morning. As well as being convenient, home-based overnight charging also has the advantage of being, in most cases, the cheapest time to recharge. Government grants are available for the installation of home EV charge points and most suppliers provide two power rating options: 3 kW or 7 kW. You can expect to pay more for the 7 kW option but this will reduce the charge time significantly if the car has a fast on-board charger.
Most EV drivers will end their journeys with some charge in their battery and just top-up when they get home but the time and cost to fully charge a New e-C4 Shine 100kW 136HP would be:
3kW Rated Charger - 16.7 Hours for £7.20 = 3.7p per mile
7kW Rated Charger - 7.1 Hours for £7.20 = 3.7p per mile
How much will I save? Fuel for a typical petrol or diesel car costs around 13.5p per mile - so the cost for driving 200 miles would be around £23.40, giving you a £16.20 saving with a New e-C4 Shine.
PUBLIC CHARGING NETWORKS
While many EV drivers opt for charging at home or even charging at work, public networks also provide invaluable charging support, plus the opportunity to extend journey distances although they are more expensive to use compared to Home Charging. Most networks offer a mix of slow, fast and rapid charging options.
On average to add a further 117 miles worth of range (30kWh) to a New e-C4 Shine 100kW using a rapid public charger would take 36 minutes and will cost you about £9, equal to 7.7p per mile which is still cheaper than both petrol and diesel. (assuming a 20% battery start level this will give you a 80% battery level once topped up)
LONG TERM SAVINGS
We all know that most costs go up each year but in the event of the cost of electric going up then the cost of petrol would most likely become more expensive too. However if we assume that all costs stay the same then the total estimated running cost of driving an electric e-C4 would save you £4,804 over 3 years compared to the costs of driving a 2018 petrol C4 Cactus. Please see the comparison table below which includes fuel, tax and servicing costs:

*Per year electric saving was calculated by using the independent electric vehicle advice and resource website, zap-map.com. Using zap-map.com's Journey Cost and Car Tax comparison tools we compared a New Citroen e-C4 Shine 100kW 136HP Electric Automatic against a similar spec 2018 C4 Cactus Flair 1.2L PureTech 110HP EAT6 S&S Petrol Automatic. To make our comparison we used the average UK electricity tariff rate for 2021 of 14.4p per kWh taken from powercompare.co.uk, an average UK petrol price of 137.5p per litre was calculated using Google and an annual mileage of 12,000miles. †The electric range you achieve in real life conditions will depend upon a number of factors including the starting charge of the battery, accessories fitted (post-registration), variations in weather, driving styles and vehicle load.
